Katakis was the next big
hit for Rainbow Arts on the C64 in 1988, just after
Giana Sisters.
This time the game was written by the master himself, Manfred Trenz. And this was before he even started writing
Turrican.
And just like Giana Sisters could remind you of the
Mario Bros.,
Katakis could remind you of R-Type. Because of that and to avoid legal problems the heads behind Katakis had to port R-Type to the
Commodore 64. Manfred Trenz hasn't had much fun doing this, but hey, Katakis is here for your pleasure.
Interesting Stuff
Remake
There is a remake for Katakis by POKE53280, the same guys that also brought you
the
Turrican remake called
Hurrican.
The remake of Katakis is called
Takatis. But Hurrican is better ;)
Developer
Manfred Trenz himself wrote something about his creation and the history of Katakis on the page of his own software development company. You can read it all
here.
Reviews
Thanks to the internet and pages like the pages just linked below you can still read the original reviews from the
magazins from the time. This can be quite amusing. But they are in german though...
