Sam n Max

The crazy, violent and unbelievable fluffy rabbit Max and his chilled partner, the cool
Sam are back. And this in 3D and over the top as ever.
Speaking of as ever, this all started with 'Sam und Max - Hit the Road',
a really successfull adventure from Lucas Arts filled with twisted humor and strange
characters. When this came out in 1993 everyone playing PC games, me included, was really appreciating it,
well, otherwise I wouldn't be writing this here ;).
The duo searches all over the weirdest places in the USA for the escaped yeti Bruno
and meets freaks from at least another dimension and cause crying kids and the mandatory chaos you can
expect from Sam n Max.
After the game the duo disappeared a bit. Well, they got their own TV show which was only aired in the USA
but the show was moderately to not accepted by the fans because of the stupid demands of the producing studio.
They wanted to have another 'identification character' for the kids in the show and also did this.
So Darla "The Geek" Gugenheek was introduced, she is a teenager and scientist at the same time that always
has technical gadgets for the two. So she is
not remotely funny and with her pseudo interesting blabbering the two well earned main characters were
played into the background by the newcommer where they obviously not belong.
So they had not enough time and place for their witty lines and funny comments, but somehow this was intended as the
series was running in the childrens program and Sam n Max like to get into things quite hefty. The TV Series was a bit funny and
entertaining but after 24 episodes it was already canceled.
But then, on the 23rd of August 2002 the good news came in: Lucas Arts announced to produce a sequel to 'Sam n Max - Hit the Road'
with the name 'Sam n Max - Freelance Police'. But sadly the creative heads that were behind Hit the Road said
goodbye to Lucas for a long time already. Because for Lucas Arts the only thing that matters today are sales numbers (of Star Wars games)
and the people really backing Sam n Max already left the company so the development of 'Sam n Max - Freelance Police' was canceled
in 2004. A responsible person from Lucas Arts said in an interview that they don't see a market for adventure games
anymore and this is why they canceled the development. As sad as it is this is what Lucas Arts did.
But there are more than enough point and click adventure game fans that would have sold their very
own mother to get their hands on this game but Lucas Arts denied these facts.
But there still are some happy ends on this cruel world. The first thing is, you are reading this text
about a cool old game. And then there is the fact that some of the people involved in the development of Sam n Max 2 left Lucas Arts
to start their own company, called Telltale Games and in cooperation with the creator of Sam n Max,
Steve Purcell, they started and completed the development of a new 3D Sam n Max adventure game branch.
The new games come in seasons and episodes and this is what theses pages are about now.
Actually only about the first two episodes of the first season by now, but maybe there will be more some time in the future...
