Best way to winI experimented with my formation and other options and here is the setup that was most useful to me in playing this game.
Set your formation to 4-4-2. Set your strategy to attack. Amend your coverage so that the attackers are as near to the opposition goal as it is possible to take them.
Now that you've set up your team. When you play you control the player with the star icon beneath them or if you are off the screen there will be an arrow indicating where you are. Use the shoot (2) button to clear the ball when in defence, pick it up in midfield and use the shoot button again to clear it towards your attackers. When they pick it up run towards goal. If a defender is near then tap 1 to tap it past him otherwise you'll be tackled. If he continues to chase then keep tapping the ball ahead of you.
As you near the goal the best way to score is to hit it towards the near post from within the penalty area.
Shooting across the keeper rarely results in a goal.
For free kicks then try to play the ball to a player nearby as the shooting doesn't work from these.
When not in possession then best thing to do is to approach the player in possession from his front and slide him when you are just in front of him. Otherwise if you struggle with tackling then don't change player and let a computer-controlled player make the tackle for you.
Should you get a yellow card (if fouls are on) then sub the player off just in case he picks up another and gets sent off.
With these tips and a little practice then you should be fine. If you still need help you could enter some passwords.
Tournament modeChoose a team to play in Tournament mode.
Tournaments consist of six groups (A-F) of four teams each. After all the teams in a group have played each other once then the top two teams from each group and the four remaining teams with the best overall records go on to the Playoffs-stage.
The group standings are determined by which team has the most points with three points for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss.
Then you will see the playoff trees showing which team plays which team. At this point all matches are knockout. In the event of a draw games go to extra time. Extra time halves are a third of the length of a normal half (like in real football). Extra time is golden goal meaning that the team that scores wins. If extra time yields no goals then the match goes to a penalty shootout.
The knockout matches continue for four rounds (round of 16, quarter-final, semi-final, final). The winner of the final wins the tournament (and you'll see the world champions screen plus get a secret code, i.e. a cheat password; these are listed in the passwords section).
Playoffs modePlayoffs are the knockout stage of a Tournament. You choose a team which starts at the round of 16 stage, if you win you go through, if you lose you get eliminated.
The winner of the final wins the tournament (and you'll see the trophy screen).
League modeChoose a team to play in League mode.
A League is a group of eight teams. Teams play each other twice (once home and once away). You get three points for a win, one point for a draw and no points for a loss. The team with the most points at the end wins the League. In the event of two teams having the same number of points then the team first alphabetically will be placed higher.
The League Standings screen appears before the first League game and between matches. It shows the current league standings with each team's league record there: games played (G), games won (W), games lost (L), games drawn (D) and points earned (P).
Upon winning the league you'll get the trophy screen.
