Hello and welcome to this FAQ for The Dinosaur Dooley for the SMS. This is a 
pretty much unheard of SMS game that was cancelled in the US but received some
kind of release in Korea under the name Agigongnyong Dooly. It's not exactly
the most in-depth and immersive game in the world, but it will certainly
provide a challenge.

The reason for writing a guide for such a tiny (I stop at insignificant) game
is to help out with the SMS FAQ Completion Project on GameFAQs. The project
aims to have a complete FAQ for every released (and unreleased) SMS game. Check

Burger     : Restores one health heart.

Key        : Allow you to progress through the game. Collect two to open up
             the Jankern match (rock, paper, scissors).

Poison     : Not totally sure (could take your items) but avoid.

Potion     : Destroys all enemies that are on the screen.

POW        : Increases Dooley's rate of fire.

RayGun     : Dooley now attacks with a raygun.

Rollerskate: Speeds up Dooley's movement.


  D o o l e y ' s  H e a l t h
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
You'll begin the first stage with three lives and two continues. Every time
you get hit by an enemy, you'll lose a health heart. When Dooley is hit by an
enemy, he will flash red. If you lose all your hearts, you'll lose a life.
This will be signified by a flash on the screen. If you lose all your lives,
you'll have to use a continue and the stage will re-start from the beginning.
Once you use up your continues, the game is over.

To regain health, you should eat burgers that are dropped by enemies. One
burger will give you one heart. The maximum number of health hearts is five.
If you get a Burger whilst you already have five hearts you'll get an extra
life, though you'll only have one health heart for this life. Basically, it
means lives are kinda pointless in this game and they shoud have just had a
massive health bar like in Zelda.

• Your initial goal on each stage is to kill enemies until they drop two keys. 
  once you have them you should head into the red building with the arrow
  above it. 

• Inside the building, you'll play rock, paper, scissors. If you win, you'll
  be given a third key that will open up the boss battle. If you lose you'll
  have to re-enter the building, though you won't have to recover the keys
  again. If you ever played Alex Kidd in Miracle World there were similar
  Jankern matches in that game. However, unlike Miracle World, in this game 
  the answers are random and not pre-determined.

• After beating the boss on each stage, you'll move onto the next stage.

• Sometimes you'll see a building with a purple arrow above it. Try to enter
  this building and you'll be given a shield that will protect Dooley from
  harm.

• To note: Theme music is different to that listed below in the Korean version
  of the game.

Theme Music: Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit

To clarify, to progress here you need to find two keys. To attain these keys
you need to keep killing enemies until the keys are dropped. Once you have 
these two keys you need to go into a red building that is marked with an arrow.

Position yourself towards the top of the screen and then hammer the 1 and 2
buttons at the same time. This will cause Dooley to both jump and fire 
simultaneously. This isn't the most pure way to play this game, but it seems
to be the most effective. By doing this, you are making it harder for enemies
to hit Dooley whilst taking out a number of them. It's better to put Dooley
over to the left hand side of the screen as he walks to the right. This way,
you'll have more time to deal with enemies and less chance of being harmed.

You will begin by scrolling to the right. If you see a building with a purple
arrow above it, stand in front and press up. This will give you a shield. A
dinosaur will circle around you, protecting Dooley from damage and killing any
enemies that it touches. This will make your jump and fire technique even more
effective.

The most dangerous enemies are the baseballs that release fireballs. It's the
fireballs that you need to watch out for. Sometimes you will have to move out
of their way, briefly stopping you from jumping and firing.

Sometimes enemies will drop items (see section 4 above). These will generally
benefit you in some way. What you need to look out for is the keys. Once these
are dropped, quickly abandon your attack and move down the screen and collect
them before they disappear.
 
When you come up against the yellow cones, it's easier to jump over them than
to stop your attack and walk around them. Only the occasional item and more
importantly the keys should stop you from attacking.

Once you've gone through the hassle of attaining the keys and you've entered
the red building, you'll be faced with a strange looking dude. Play him at
rock, paper, scissors (the answers are random). If you win, he'll give you a 
third key that will allow you access to the Boss of this stage. If you lose,
he'll kick you out and you'll have to do a lap of the stage and re-enter the
building (though you won't have to re-find the keys).

Here's an interesting thing to note. If you draw your first match with the
guy, on the second turn he'll assume that you'll pick the same again. For
example, if you both pick scissors on the first turn, on the next turn he'll
pick rock to try and beat scissors because he thinks you will pick the same
again. Knowing this you should pick paper to win.

After you've beat the guy and he's given you the key, it's time to face the
boss. Scroll to the right and there'll be a few enemies to face. Make sure you
don't take any damage and try to pick a couple of useful items up. Soon though
you'll reach the boss.

The tried and tested jump and fire technique must be abandoned here. The Boss
dude will rip you to shreds if you continue using it. A more subtle approach
is in order.

The boss will follow a simple cycle. He will fire five or so shots at you,
then he'll move. Then he'll fire again. Simple. You need to avoid his shots
by running in front or behind him. When he stops firing, you need to shoot
him as many times as possible before he starts to shoot again. When he begins
his attack, you need to stop shooting and get evading. If he takes to the air
you'll just have to avoid his attacks until he returns to the ground.

After you've been through this little sequence four or five times, you will
have hit the boss enough for him to give in. Good work, now on to the next
stage!

Theme Music: Soup Dragons - Divine Thing

You should treat the second stage much the same as the first. Just because a
few aesthetics have changed, doesn't mean you should change your tactic: jump
and fire ftw!

The caterpillar enemies are pretty much harmless and you can ignore these
since they will all be blasted quickly by your offense. The bird enemies can be
treated pretty much the same, but keep an eye out because the odd one may 
penetrate your defence. The candy canes are the difficult ones to deal with
here. They shoot out fireballs, similar to the baseballs on Stage 1. If you
see a large group of these candy canes, it's a wise move to try and take them
out since you can easily be overwhelmed by their numbers.

Don't forget to visit the shield building for your dino shield. Once you've
got both the keys head to the red building for rock, paper, scissors. After
you've won, head right for the boss battle.

ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
This boss takes the shape of a moose/yak type thing. His attacks are really
hard to avoid since they are so random. Sometimes a cluster of fireballs will
home in on you and sometimes they won't. Sometimes a few of the cluster will
home whilst the rest won't.

By far the best thing to do here is to stand right next to the boss and just
blast him. If you're quick enough you should be able to kill him while only
sustaining a couple of hits yourself. Job done.

Theme Music: Spin Doctors - Two Princes

Up until this point, the stages have been quite easy. Just jump and fire your
way through the level then blast the boss at the end. Well things just turned
up and notch and that jump and fire method isn't gonna cut it here.

On this stage Dooley can levitate, unfortunately so can all the enemies. You
really need to watch your back here, because these guys will sneak up on you.
As you start, you'll see a group of space invaders descending from the roof.
They will move in behind you, so whilst they are on the attack, don't forget
to check back.

After these you will come to some skulls. These are fairly easy to deal with 
since your weapon has a broad enough range to take an entire trio out. Try to
avoid their fire and take them down as quickly as possible. Skulls tend to drop
a lot of items, including keys. 

Make sure you take every opportunity to grab a key. The number of difficult
enemies on this stage mean that you want to get things over with quickly. 
Other items such as burgers and POWs will help you with this.

Look for the cage with the purple arrow to get a shield. You need to find a
skull in the ceiling. This is where the Jankern match takes place and where
you obtain the third key.

The one other enemy you'll have to contend with are the bats. They will come
at you in threes and attack with two groups at a time. One will come from the
front and one from the back. You need to alternately fire left and right to
try and take down as many bats as possible. Try to avoid their fire and ride
things out until they disappear.

Ideally you should get both keys and then be able to enter the red arrow
building on your first lap through the stage. If you can manage this you'll
limit the amount of exposure you have to enemies, meaning you'll take less
damage. Once you've got the keys, win the Jankern match to obtain the third.
You'll now face a few enemies on the way to the boss battle.

ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
The boss is different from the two that you have already faced. A huge skull
will bounce off the edges of the cave scattering bones as it goes. You need to
avoid these bones since they will cause Dooley harm. 

The trick is to try and stay on the opposite side of the screen to the skull.
This will give you the chance to cause a lot of damage to the boss. As the
skull begins to move, you need to think about passing it. Usually it pays off
to remain high and  move over the top but this isn't always possible. Try to
look at where the bones are being fired and plot a safe route if possible.

Even when it seems that you can't avoid the bones, sometimes it's possible
to find a gap in between them, so don't give up! This isn't a particularly 
easy boss battle, but if you find a rhythm you can get through it without
taking any damage at all. You can certainly get through only losing a few
hearts.

As time goes on and you cause the skull more damage, it will begin bouncing
around more quickly. This makes it more difficult to avoid but it also means
that the bones are spread more thinly and are easier to evade. Once the boss
has taken enough hits, it will admit defeat and you'll move on to the next
stage.

Theme Music: Ugly Kid Joe - Everything About You

On this stage Dooley seems to be taking a country stroll past a series of 
idyllic rivers. However there is no time to take in the scenery as there are a
number of enemies you have to deal with. 

The first set of enemies are the space invader things from the previous level
that come down from the sky and shoot at you. The next set of enemies will be
the candy canes we saw in level 2. 

Another set of space invaders follow the candy canes before a hoard of birds,
again like in level 2, come along from the right - some of which will charge at
you so watch for those, whilst most will meander along leisurely towards you
whilst shooting of course. There should also be a building here where you can
pick up a shield.

Eventually the birds or locusts will disappear and you'll meet the space 
invaders again followed by some fish like enemies, some of which charge at you,
others who slowly come at you before looking back and forth before deciding to
come again.

More space invaders follow, followed by the more candy canes, space invaders 
and locusts, by which point you'll be at the red arrow building, which seems to
have a swastika on it (well it is the final, presumably most evil, boss). If 
you have the two keys then enter, otherwise embark on another lap of the level
facing the same enemies as before.

Now win your rock, paper, scissors (or Jankern) match and you'll get the key. 
You'll now face a few enemies on the way to the final boss battle.

Theme Music: Soup Dragons - Pleasure

The sky will go red and out of it will pop a creature with a segmented body made
up of 7 balls, the head of which will be orange and firing bullets at you. Your
best bet is to circle the creature, avoiding the bullets, as he zips around in
the middle. Make sure to take pot-shots at him when you can. And avoid him
zipping towards you - this is easy because his head will always lead the rest 
of his body.

Eventually he'll die and you'll enter a new arena with a black background and a 
python moving side to side spitting bullets at you. Again see if you can go
around the edge of the screen taking pot shots at him (or if you have lots of
lives left and lack patience then you could go for broke, after all you don't
need the lives after this). Aim at his mouth.

Once the python has taken enough hits he will explode and you'll get a points
bonus for a job well done before the closing sequence which sees Dooley walk to
the middle of the screen, the four dinosaur shields (in the Korean version they 
are different, but still the shields you saw in the game), that you used in the 
levels, meeting him there before he points at one like he's dancing Saturday
Night Fever (his pointing finger even twinkles).
