SMS Completion Project Part 1

Hey everyone. I need help explaining one of the icons in the bottom-left corner of this screenshot [http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/sms/image/588117.html?gf=3]. It is the top-right tile with a circle at the top of the crossed lines. I think it may be called an "Ankh", but would like confirmation. That damn thing is stopping my progress on half of my Populous guide.

I believe the Ankh is properly called the "Place Papal Magnet" according to these manuals:

^ It is. However, saying "Place Papal Magnet" can confuse people when you are trying to describe what it looks like.

Populous has just been uploaded. It was 3kB shorter than I wanted, but that may motivate me to complete another guide this year to reach 1MB.

When accepted, we would have now covered 10 games since this CP was restarted.

Just looking at Zaxxon 3-D to write and it was quite weird on my screen. I decided to look for some information about it and found this from Wikipedia (not sure how reliable it is, but might as well post it)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zaxxon#Legacy

If that is true, I will not be able to play this game as 3D glasses and all that crap are terrible for me as I can not see clearly out of my left eye. If anyone knows of anymore games that require the use of 3D glasses, please post them here so I know (as well as anyone else who can not see through 3D glasses effectively) to avoid them.

If anyone knows of anymore games that require the use of 3D glasses, please post them here so I know (as well as anyone else who can not see through 3D glasses effectively) to avoid them.

Here they are Games!

= Games that you need the 3D glasses
- Blade Eagle 3-D
- Line of Fire
- Maze Hunter 3-D
- Missile Defense 3-D (also requires the Light Phaser gun)

= Games that you can play without the 3D glasses, although they were made for 3D
- Out Run 3-D
- Poseidon Wars 3-D

= Games that you can play without the 3D glasses, although they were made for 3D, but you need to access it via a code
- Space Harrier 3-D
- Zaxxon 3-D

This is what I found out Games -- or should I say Glacoras!

Thanks for that list, vinheim. Will add it to me website when I implement another idea (explained later). I found a website that mentions the cheat for Zaxxon 3-D after posting that message and am going to see if it is on this site. The password is that you press the Pause button before playing the game to change the options.

My other idea (which I mentioned to selmiak) is a FAQ page that will answer certain questions that may be asked. I have not thought of all the information yet, but will include: Games that require non-English language knowledge, Anything that needs 3-D, Anything that needs another controller (like Gangster Town). Any more ideas will be welcome for this page.

I finally beat Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? and am in the process of transferring everything from my spiral notebook into Notepad so I should have it submitted before I go to bed tonight.

Go ahead and put me down for X-men, I'll probably start working on it in January (need to get back to work on the Jaguar first).

I was wondering why that website just started going to some adverts. Did you get told what the Copyright information was or not? If it was the data (which is unlikely), that means my site could be taken down. If it was (and probably was) the .gif Sonic images, that is nothing, as you could just remake the site again without said images.

Brain, great to hear that you got that game finished. Good luck with your Jaguar Project.

I think I will claim Rampage. A great game that I have just found a cheat in and completed. Also, the only information in this game does not appear to be correct from my experiences (eating the woman in yellow yeilds an extra life).

It was specifically moved to a new list after odino's comments that "Guides by another system" should count as complete, while I thought otherwise.

If you want to take Lemmings, be my guest. I would prefer to write my Lemmings guide for the Archimedes, anyway.

Don't expect any quick responses there Games. All the older system boards are dead. Did see from one of the other topics there that The Story of Mio has a translation patch now apparently - good news as it is one of the few pure Japanese language games for the system.

Wasn't aware Rampage didn't have a guide, maybe it was one that was claimed in the old version of this project which is why I didn't write for it. Shows how thoroughly I read the list of games needed. Used to really like that game. Go for it though if you are interested, would be quite a while before I get a chance to write for it (unlikely to get any guides done until early in the new year).

Lemmings was one guide I considered also before deciding on Chuck Rock. Don't like the controls in the SMS game. It is pretty similar to other versions apart from the controls anyway.

I got a reply from the host. They kicked my stuff because I wrote about Emulators on another part of my page and they claim Emus are used to load up games that are copyrighted so Emus themselves are illegal. Of course I showed them the GameFAQs page about the legality of Emus, let's hope they decide it was overreacted and put it back up.

@Eternal_Debate, I saw that topic, but did not find the game on the list (for some reason). As it is on the list, that's great news for whoever decides to write for that game. Also, I do not need a fast reply as I hardly have enough time to update the website itself, let alone write for another game, until Tuesday. Even then, I can drag it out longer, with Gyrodine [NES] and Scrabble 2007 Edition [DS] until I get a reply.

@selmiak, that sucks to here it is something about Emulators. That should not affect the information on the SMS pages as they were (last time I checked).

I would think that it is more to do with Emulators being linked close to video game piracy. How many people (excluding this board) do you think would link Emulators to illegal activities and be surprised to find out that they can have legal uses?

Also, this could be a pre-emptive strike to prevent illegal content on their site, just like this site does not allow discussion of Homebrew anymore.

Glad to have you contributing to this Completeion Project, odino. I will make the update of that website on Tuesday (got little time until after Monday).

Anyone that is thinking about writing for Rampage, there is a chheat that will allow you to continue playing the game after loosing all your lives. When you are dying, press Button 2. I think you have to press it when you are walking off the screen, as you can also grow back to a Monster if you have some lives left using the same technique.

Hi guys.

It's great to see the SMS CP is up and full throttle again. For a long time I updated the website and completed several games myself. It's been a long time since I don't write a FAQ, but I'd like to start it.

I have some news that you may find nice. And I also have information that maybe was throught lost. Here's the previous (older) version of the SMS CP page: http://fernandoimperator.com/oldsmscp/

I even have a topic of historical importance cached there: http://fernandoimperator.com/oldsmscp/archive.htm

Well, it isn't updated since 2006 and won't ever be updated again, since you have a new page now. But I hope this can bring usedul information as to who were the old contributors and some historical facts on the project (http://fernandoimperator.com/oldsmscp/stats.php). Some of them (like the Completion Topic #2 and #3) were purged forever afaik, unfortunately.

Last time we were able to finish 77 of all the 256 games, that's 30% of all the uncompleted games, I think of it as a great success.

I'm glad to see that some of the old folks are involved again (like Ringworm, that previously completed 8 guides for the project).

I may take a game or two to faq soon, just after my final tests at college. Be good.

hey imperator, great to have you on board!
I searched the whole web upside down for a mirror of the old SMS CP page, thanks for posting that. I added it to the new page already.
I guess I'll add the prolific writers statistics or this SMS CP too, as I think that it's a good idea.

So two questions for today...
should the games, that are completed by another system be listet in the statistics too?
Should the completed guides from the first SMS CP also be listed?

for the 1st question I'd say no, as they were not written for the project, so they should just disappear from the incomplete list and that's it.
for the second question, I don't know, it was a different time, and (some) different people but the goal was the same.

btw, my page is up again *throws even more confetti* =)

Depends which stats. If it is stats to indicate us completing a game for this project (as in, the incomplete page), defiantly no.

Including them as part of the "Stats by letter" would be alright, but should be indicated that they are. This is due to my personal opinion that the Completion Project should only count guides written for the SMS Console and no others, while others disagree with that. Also the same reason why some guides are listed in another page on my site.

Should the completed guides from the first SMS CP also be listed?

No, as what would we do about the guides that were written between the hiatus? We also keep referencing that this is a restart of the project, so the old stats should not be considered as part of the currents stats (in my view).

I like the idea that we at least acknowledge the old project in some way, maybe mention how many games were completed for it and the times that it ran for. Would be nice to have a list as well of the games completed, but not too worried about that. Up to you if you include the contributor totals.

Nice to see you back imperator. I had also looked for the old website, but didn't have a link to the most recent version obviously.

I may make a page dedicated to the old project, but I do not think we should add that data into this version of the project.

This is because quite a few guides were added inbetween and those covered games would also need to be mentioned. While I have little problems with that (due to 3/5 of my SMS guides not being counted towards this project), these guides were created dispite the project not being created. They were written (most likely) without thinking about SMS Completion.

You don't have to count all the in-between guides. If the FAQ was submitted for the project (aka the one's for this one or the one's listed on old site) there could be credit given to the contributors of the guides. The old completion project had the same intent as this one so it's completion stats would surely cross over to this one. If a guide was not written for the project, it can of course be knocked off the incomplete list, but the author shouldn't get credit in the project.

Doing a major update of my site. A couple of things I need to point out:

1) X-Men STILL needs a guide. No guide is linked to the SMS version, as shown here - http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/sms/data/932777.html

2) The Stats page will be changed. I somehow have wrong information with the amount certain letters have (for example, A has 24 games instead of 23).

3) When I get around to it, I will include the previous SMS stats. I will attempt to list them within the games covered for the restart, but I still want to be able to state which were created for which project. If I am the only person who cares about this small piece of information, I will not add it.

4) All Incomplete games will link to the Game Data section. All "Another System" and Complete games will link to the FAQ section (like selmiak's site did).

5) A new FAQ page will be added for this project.

6) When I figure how to make this look nice, there will be navigation buttons to allow users to travel between the pages without having to go back to the Home Page or modify the URL bar. Additionally, there will be a more promentant NES link and a link to this board/this topic because of these buttons.

Please comment on any of these additions to the site. The only things I am doing atm is #2 and #4 (technically, also #1 because that involves me doing nothing).

@Brain, do you want me to add you to the Xmen game, or are you happy with Xenon 2?
