Hadn't tried the game despite having a copy of it (The Dinosaur Dooley). Had a quick go and got to agree with the awful comments. Not planning on having a crack at writing for it myself, although I hate side scrolling shooting games, there are probably fans of that genre that will have a go at it. Seems easy enough with save states.

So, I have been playing though Laser Ghost the last few days, and I am stuck on the final boss. Does anyone know how to defeat the last boss in this game? It is the fight where you must shoot the faces on the wall and fight the guy on the bed. It has been driving me crazy to figure out what to do.

The guy in the bed is invincible. In order to beat the last boss, you must shoot each face at least once which is tricky. The faces pop up in a set pattern the first time, survive the poltergeist's passes and the faces will appear in random spot consisting of spots you may have missed the first time around. Get all faces before the poltergeist comes again or you are dead.

Succeed and you;ll see the poltergeist fly up out the top of the screen and you get the ending.

Either me or selmiak has to confirm that the game is complete. Until then, it is still considered as incomplete.

Your best bet is to hope selmiak decides to move your claim to complete, or wait until it is accepted by this site so I will move it over. I will only move guides over once accepted by this site, as it could get rejected (although I doubt that with most of these guides).

@ IceQueenZer0: Wow, you're the best! I could never beat the last boss the 19 years I have played this game. I always thought that the faces on the wall had something to do with defeating the boss, but I never thought that you would have to shoot all of them. I also wondered why you couldn't hurt the guy in the bed, but now I realize that he is invincible thanks to you. It took me about 3-4 times to try and defeat him, but I finally did it. I still don't understand how sometimes he kills you when he first appears, while other times you will have a little health left and get a second try at the faces. Oh well, I finally beat the game! Now there are a few more SMS games on my list that I need to fully complete.;)

Once again, thanks for your help. I will definitely give you credit in the final boss section of my walkthrough when I complete it.

^ Congrats.

@MikePenance, Just skimmed through your guide and noticed something. In your FAQ section listing the differences between the Mega Drive and Master System versions, you mentioned that you do not have the kick attack against thieves. I have recently played the Master System version (and I know it was the SMS version, due to playing it ON the SMS) and got the kick animation when a blue thief is far away from you when you attack.

Galactic Protector requires the paddle controller to play, which is unfortunate because it looks like a pretty fun game. I believe Woody Pop is the same, as is BMX Trial: Alex Kidd . Presumably all titles with the word Sports Pad included will also require the special controller. Bad news I know :(

Got bored and calculated this:

If we continue on an average rate of 6 games covered per month, we will have completed this project in exactly 23 months (just under 2 years).

Will be interesting to see what is left for 2011 or when I have finished with my aims for this year.

So, I finally submitted my Laser Ghost walkthrough! Hopefully it gets posted tommorow.

So I realize selmiak has an SMS site also. Both of them look awesome. I was wondering why the first project died in the first place? Was it due to lack of interest? I was wondering because this new project is about six months old, and we already eliminated 30+ games.

I am not too sure, but I think it had to do with direct competition with the NES project and, being a US site, NES won over SMS. Now that the NES project mainly consists of Japanese games, some users wanted to make a Project for a console that focussed more on English games than Japanese (or, more on a console that had lots of games that did not need translations).

After almost accidently hi-jacking the NES project in discussion about the next project, TD made a topic that decided to start this project (with my website being used for the SMS stats) with support from half the regulars here. Rest is this topic.

It died out because the people supporting it just didn't have more time. It wasn't really in competition with the NES one as the biggest supporters of the old project never contributed in the NES one.
Tutankoopa | Posted 2/26/2010 8:18:23 PM | message detail
That is the exact reason why I started writing FAQs for this project because most of the games are in English, whereas most of the games for the NES left are in Japanese.

Anyways, I definitely will take Submarine Attack next for my project. I actually am almost half-way through with this FAQs, so hopefully I can knock it out by next week

After that though, I want to try and tackle a longer game. Don't get me wrong, I had fun going through Gangster Town and finally completing Laser Ghost, but I want to play a longer game. I am thinking maybe Earthworm Jim if I can find my cartridge. I could never complete that game when I was little. >_<

It is a fun game, but can become a little tedious because you die fast and you move slow. And I can't remember why I only did that one image for the game.
Eternal_Debate | Posted 3/1/2010 3:47:18 AM | message detail
Good luck with Earthworm Jim, one I was considering doing myself (once I get through the other games I have claimed, next week that will happen most likely). It will complete a letter anyway whoever writes it. Seems very similar to the Genesis version from what I remember, might even be able to transfer FAQ's from that version? Can't confirm it is exactly identical though.

Glad to see the emulator tip helps, I only quickly tried the Alex Kidd game with that controller, so wasn't sure what other games used it. Sports pad games are actually a different controller again, but Meka will play them too (plus light gun and 3D games).

@selmiak, could you change the "Active Claims" to be displayed per month? It's just because of this CP will only keep claims up per year and that stat will provide little information.

Additionally, I have a few stats on my FAQ page (http://glacoras.net16.net/SMS_CP/html/faq.html) with 3D games, Light Gun games, and Japanese/Korean games. I am wondering if you could include this information on your site, especially as it can be removed from the list when covered automatically.

active claims per month is no problem.
But the other info... well, yes, it should be included but another row in the table will make it look ugly with lots of text in it. Maybe some more Icons will be a solution for this.
