SMS Completion Project Part 2
Games | Posted 8/9/2010 1:04:48 AM | message detail |
Just want to point a couple of things out: - We are 2 months away from this restarted project's aniversary - We need 6 more games to be completed (for the SMS version) to reach 50 games covered by this project. - We need to complete 2 "G" games, 1 "J" game, 2 "T" games and 1 "U" game to get every game to 50% complete or above. Combined, this would be enough to get the SMS project reaching 50 games complete by this restart Also, is this project allowing people to claim games that already have a bounty on them? As I understand the bounties, they are used to try and get a quick, complete guide for the game. Allowing claims for these games would (in a sense) remove the rush to complete the guide to get a bounty. --- Sign for System Requirements/Recommendations for games: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessage.php?board=7&topic=53203289 |

So, Cool Spot, turns out I don't actually need to write a guide for it, which is nice. Here's the thing: the Master System version contains the same exact levels as the Mega Drive/Genesis version, admittedly not always in the same order (I was like: “wuts up wit dat? yo, homes, to bel air”), and they're as ugly as sin, but still. I'll let someone else submit whatever form it is that needs submitting in order to get it cross-linked, because I don't have a clue. Ooh, and while I was at it, I submitted the correct code for the cheat menu. --- Save the cheerleader (for yourself), (don't) save the world. At least you'll die happy. |

^ Why don't you at least write a guide that notes the differences between the 2 versions? I know that if I was reading a guide for a game and there is a level skipped, I would try to get that guide unlinked/removed. --- Sign for System Requirements/Recommendations for games: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessage.php?board=7&topic=53203289 |

Well, how about that, it turns out I must have been asleep when I posted that. So, yeah, ignore the previous post. Okay, let's see, now I'm awake: The Mega Drive version has: 1) Shell Shock 2) Pier Pressure 3) Off The Wall 4) Wading Around 5) Toying Around 6) Radical Rails 7) Wound Up 8) Loco Motion 9) Back To The Wall 10 Dock and Roll 11) Surf Patrol The Master System Version has: 1) Shell Shock 2) Pier Pressure 3) Off The Wall 4) Radical Rails 5) Wading Around 6) Back To The Wall 7) Dock and Roll 8) Surf Patrol But, the levels they do share are identical, apart from the a couple of groups of Small Spots replaced by a Large Spot, and a couple of ground spikes being absent. That only took 106 words, I'm not sure how I could make a differences guide. --- Save the cheerleader (for yourself), (don't) save the world. At least you'll die happy. |

Why not ask permission to use the levels wrote in the Mega Drive guide and you list the differences in a separate section of the FAQ. --- Total Files/Complete FAQs: 47/21 SMS FAQ Completion Project: http://www.selmiak.bplaced.net/sms/ |
TrulyDexterous | Posted 8/9/2010 10:24:30 PM | message detail |
Probably you could make it a really short differences guide (more like a list) and hope it gets accepted. If this is the case a cross-link would work fine. --- It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt - Mark Twain |

Why not ask permission to use the levels wrote in the Mega Drive guide and you list the differences in a separate section of the FAQ. Or pass that information onto the author of the Genisis guide and hope (s)he includes it in his/her guide. While I am almost certain SB would accept a guide that takes almost all the written information for another guide (because he has, several times), you will get someone whine about the similarities and try to get it off the site (even if you do give credit). Without identifying the differences between the games one way or another, a cross-link would not work well for this game (and games like this is the reason why I wanted to identify every cross-linked game when we started the project, much to some user's annoyance). --- Sign for System Requirements/Recommendations for games: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessage.php?board=7&topic=53203289 |

Just curious, how would you get SB to change the status of a guide on this site that you do not own? I have just read through the Strider II guide and it is a complete beginning-to-end walkthrough of the game and want to get that marked as complete (if possible). --- Sign for System Requirements/Recommendations for games: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessage.php?board=7&topic=53203289 |

I suppose the only thing you could try is a problem report. However, I wouldn't hold out much hope of this being successful. I would have suggested contacting the author but since the FAQ was written 10 years ago the idea is almost laughable. --- It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt - Mark Twain |

Haven't played the NES version, but reading a FAQ, it seems a bit different. Think there are 18 levels in the SMS version, with refuelling after every third stage, flying fortress enemy after 6 and 12. Seems to be a limit to your missiles in the NES version too - you have unlimited on SMS. Can also get through the first 11 levels by just holding either left or right too, as nothing hits you until Stage 12. --- ~ Ringworm ~ |

Can anyone give me any tips on how to write for After Burner? The worlds are so alike and have the same enemies, so I'm running out of ideas for the guide. I was interested as to what you would be including for the game, as I wasn't even sure if the waves of enemies were the same in every game (think they might be). It is too fast paced really to read through a guide as you are playing anyway, so I'd probably just give a brief description of the appearance of each level, maybe a bit of a comment on what sort of number of enemies to expect etc. Up to you to include what you think is necessary to cover the game. I will beat the game one day. Maybe. Was never able to get past level 13 or so as a kid. --- ~ Ringworm ~ |

Just over a month to go before this project reaches it's 1 year anniversary. 46 Games already covered for the SMS while this project is running and I am hoping for 4 more games to be covered before the anniversary of this project begins. I am currently passed about a 1/6 of my way through my Air Rescue guide and know that Round 2 and Round 4 will be easy to write for. I am unsure about Round 3 and Round 5 will take time as I need to complete it first. The other sections (considered 1/6 of the guide) should be simple to complete, so I am hoping for this to be completed before the start of October. After that, I am unsure what my next SMS guide will be and unsure if I will start another SMS guide this year. --- Sign for System Requirements/Recommendations for games: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessage.php?board=7&topic=53203289 |

So, do we have 4 people (including me) that still believe they can get a guide completed before 10th October [1st year anniversary]? I have my Air Rescue guide at 50% completed and am only worried about the final round. I am hoping to get it completed for next Monday, but round 5 will be the only problem in my attempt to complete this guide before or on 8th October. 10th October [the anniversary] is on a Sunday, so the guide needs to be finished on the 8th October to be counted for the statistics of this project's 1st year after being revived. @selmiak, still planning to take down that portion of my site. The game I am writing for is a challenge, I'm 1/3 of the way through Grand Slam mode in Tennis Ace, that's only 12 matches BTW. Not a huge fan of sports games really, but they are easy to write guides for anyway. Just finding out what happens at the end of this mode so I can write the FAQ. Haven't started it yet, but it'll only take a day or so to write once I'm done with this mode, I don't expect a FAQ much over 15K, if that. Trying to get through 3 matches a day - each takes about 15-20 mins. It's surprising, I find the doubles more fun than the singles. Usually the opposite in a tennis game. Yeah, I'll get it written by 10 October though, probably by the end of this month. --- ~ Ringworm ~ |
