SMS FAQ Completion Project: Part 3
MikePenance posted... the_flash.txt successfully uploaded, 56649 bytes Well done MikePenance. 60 guides to go now. How is everyone getting on with their guides? @Ringworm: Have you uploaded Danan yet? That'll take us into the 50s. @selmiak: Good to see progress on your guide. @odino: Are you writing anything? @Glacoras: What are you working on? |
Still got my Great Volleyball guide to write for. Once that is complete, I will be taking a step back from any CPs for a while to reduce my backlog; it's currently at 16 games. When Great Volleyball is complete, it will be crosslinked to Game Box Serie Esportes and that would also be considered complete. Should have mentioned this earlier (if I haven't), but I am not going to write for the Daffy Duck in Hollywood game for a while and have removed my claim for it. --- There is no failure, only feedback. |
Started work on After Burner. Miick & Mack is a 8-bit version of the Genesis and I can just FAQ it based on the Genesis. Hook & Earthworm Jim, for whoever claims them maybe me later on, are also the same way with actually all ports. --- http://www.youtube.com/PurrfectTrio. PSN = Azul Fria. 3rd gen FAQer, go me. IceQueenZer0 posted... Hook & Earthworm Jim, for whoever claims them maybe me later on, are also the same way with actually all ports. Can you get them cross-linked? That'll knock them off the list quicker. |
I would check before doing any cross-links. I've read in places that the SMS/GG version of Ariel (one of the guides I wrote for this project) was the same as the Gen version and found that a Boss battle was different enough to warrant a separate guide. Cool Spot is another guide where the Gen version could cover the SMS version with a bit of a tweak. Basically, check that the guide actually does cover the SMS version before filling in a cross-link. Also, some "complete" guides on this site have been found to be incomplete, so please make sure any cross-linked guides are complete for both the version of the game it covered and for the SMS version. Finally, there is a YouTube series of videos that shows how to complete the SMS version of Hook, if you search that site (think a couple of people have posted the link before). --- There is no failure, only feedback. |
I have written and submitted a guide for Castelo Ra-Tim-Bum. What a game! P.S. Only one more guide for the big 125 milestone - who will be the author of this momentous FAQ? |
Just to mention here, another guide was also accepted today, bringing this project's total to 125 games completed. --- There is no failure, only feedback. |
thanks for adding Sonic's Edusoft, this slipped under my radar... --- I don't care who your dad is! While I'm fishing here nobody walks over the water! www.selmiak.de.vu |

No, nothing is active for me but if I ever find time I'll probably do Smurfs "2". |
odino posted... tim_roast posted... What about that other Japanese game you mentioned before - Tensai Bakabon? We might need you to do that one. |
IceQueenZer0 posted... Hook & Earthworm Jim, for whoever claims them maybe me later on, are also the same way with actually all ports. One of the Hook guides on here is based on the Sega CD version which is also on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rwtmJKsRP4 And the SMS run-through of this game is also on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GEnEzN7V6E Just checked the first level and they are the same. Anyone want to check the rest - Glacoras? |
IceQueenZer0 posted... Hook & Earthworm Jim, for whoever claims them maybe me later on, are also the same way with actually all ports. Earthworm Jim is different on the SMS according to this article: http://gaminghell.110mb.com/EarthwormJimSMS.html Seems like the game is a port of the game gear version, but with a lot of bits missing. |
Gauntlet submitted. 56 to go. |
So Hook is the same game? Looks very different from the screens but maybe just the interface got a facelift. |
I'll probably play the whole game through seeing that the game was cancelled something may be missing. --- http://www.youtube.com/PurrfectTrio. PSN = Azul Fria. 3rd gen FAQer, go me. July 28, 2012: Demorga Terri Matthews, the next ice princess is born. |

KeyBlade999 posted... http://www.classic-gaming.net/game/304/ Don't know without playing it but the publisher and the developer don't match the ones on this site (TecToy being the publisher) so may not be the same. But you can probably find the correct version (if this isn't it) to play on another site. Be good if you did claim it. |
tim_roast posted... Gauntlet submitted. Accepted now. |
TecToy could be the SA publisher. Also, can I remind people not to post links to where people can obtain these games. Sure it could be against the Law + TOS. --- There is no failure, only feedback. |
tim_roast posted... KeyBlade999 posted...http://www.classic-gaming.net/game/304/ Don't worry, I'll keep looking. ;) After finding a few certain other games I've been yearning for for years, there's no way I'm not going to keep looking. --- Every wound a new opportunity, every curse a new challenge. I shall encounter defeats... But I will not be defeated. |
This article talks about Ultima IV: http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/ultima/ultima5.htm It has a section on the SMS version saying how it is the same as the PC version pretty much:
So we can use the PC FAQ for it. |
I played through Satellite 7 using the Invincibility code just to see how the whole game looks. It loops after you defeat the game's main boss where there is a house in the background. You fight the boss 5 total times. The invincibility code will wear off after looping then you got to activate it again. You'll know if you are invincible if you can't collect the stars which I don't know the purpose of since I normally died to much to find out. --- http://www.youtube.com/PurrfectTrio. 33rd SMS game total but lucky number 31st for the project has been submitted and it's none other than BMX Trial: Alex Kidd. Turns out, I'm wrong about M&M: GG as well. The SMS version doesn't have the final bosses like the Genesis does. --- http://www.youtube.com/PurrfectTrio. PSN = Azul Fria. 3rd gen FAQer, go me. I'll look into writing for these, if no one minds: - Ace of Aces - Golfamania - Pit-Fighter Like with my numerous GB CP claims, it'll be a while before I get around to them - probably a week or so at max. If that's a problem, then don't worry over my claims. --- Every wound a new opportunity, every curse a new challenge. I shall encounter defeats... But I will not be defeated. |
KeyBlade999 posted... I'll look into writing for these, if no one minds: A week is quick compared to most. Welcome to the project. |
Nice to be here. :) Tossed up that Pit-Fighter FAQ. (I already had this one done, tim; the manuals you sent were more or less double-checking. Thanks.) Still, Pit-Fighter ... Be it on the SNES, GameBoy, or SMS - they all suck. --- Every wound a new opportunity, every curse a new challenge. I shall encounter defeats... But I will not be defeated. |
And, just because I love hijacking topics, new claims: - PGA Tour Golf - The Ottifants --- Every wound a new opportunity, every curse a new challenge. I shall encounter defeats... But I will not be defeated. |
Uploaded FAQs for Ace of Aces and The Ottifants. --- Every wound a new opportunity, every curse a new challenge. I shall encounter defeats... But I will not be defeated. |

Claimed Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story. --- Life is a journey. Time is a river. The door is ajar. |
Uploaded an FAQ for Golfamania. Cancelling my PGA Tour Golf claim - bad copy of the game. Now claiming Xenon 2 and World Class Leaderboard Golf. Also, as a (dumb) question, how is Hook on the list if it was cancelled? --- Every wound a new opportunity, every curse a new challenge. I shall encounter defeats... But I will not be defeated. |
It's still FAQable. I won't say where but the Tom is still playable just like the other canceled games. --- http://www.youtube.com/PurrfectTrio. PSN = Azul Fria. 3rd gen FAQer, go me. July 28, 2012: Demorga Terri Matthews, the next ice princess is born. |
Almost done with Mick and Mack. Next 3 projects are Reggie Jackson, Andre Agassi, and G-Loc. I have the GG version if G-Loc do I'll see if it's the same. --- http://www.youtube.com/PurrfectTrio. Oh look at that, only 37 unclaimed games left. This is getting pretty fast and weird =) But I doubt we get it done on 2012 ;) --- I don't care who your dad is! While I'm fishing here nobody walks over the water! http://www.selmiak.de.vu |

Uploaded FAQs for World Class Leaderboard Golf and Xenon 2. --- Every wound a new opportunity, every curse a new challenge. I shall encounter defeats... But I will not be defeated. |
Xenon 2 is on the game boy too. Don't know if it's the same though. |
Keyblade, how many missions are in Ace of Aces? Didn't catch that in your guide. --- American NES games left to beat: 3 Last 3 NES games beaten: Romance of the Three Kingdoms II, Nobunaga's Ambition II and Gemfire [Updated 7/21/10] |
Also, Xenon 2...how many levels? --- American NES games left to beat: 3 Last 3 NES games beaten: Romance of the Three Kingdoms II, Nobunaga's Ambition II and Gemfire [Updated 7/21/10] |
Ace of Aces 1) How many missions are they? 2) Any specific strategies for dealing with enemy planes? 3) How do I complete some missions? I looked at this guide to try and find out how to control the plane (which was described well) and how to complete missions. Also, why is the guide 10kB when the information relating to the game itself is only 4kB? Also, and while it doesn't matter for these guides, I would recommend moving the version history and legalities to the end of the guide to allow users to get to the requested information quicker. The Ottifants 1) I know that you can get some special bonuses/abilities if you collect some popcicle-type items in specific orders. What are these orders and what do you get per order? Xenon 2 1) How many levels are there? 2) Can you suggest boss strategies? 3) What are the different power-ups you can get? 4) Why is there no mention of the shops at the end of the level? 5) How do you get more extra lives? I probably could go into more detail on what is missing from the Xenon 2 guide, but this is the major missing information in the guide and the main reason why someone would look at the guide. Before this is mentioned, I am aware that adaml has mentioned a couple of my points in the last 2 posts. --- There is no failure, only feedback. |
Everyone does their FAQs differently. I uploaded a guide for Flash Point, that old Korean classic that you've all heard of (particularly Odino). If it gets accepted there'll be 50 to go I believe. |
What Glacoras said. I've been kinda harsh on a few guides for this project in the past and I'm sorry if I offended anyone, but some of Keyblade's guides are just...incomplete. I understand wanting to knock out a completion project, but as I've mentioned several times in the NES project thread, the integrity of the guides suffer when someone is just banging them out for the sake of banging them out. I'd hate to need help on one of the above mentioned games and go to look the guide only to discover the Cliff's note versions that have been done. The donation bit at the beginning of the guides kill me. :) --- American NES games left to beat: 3 Last 3 NES games beaten: Romance of the Three Kingdoms II, Nobunaga's Ambition II and Gemfire [Updated 7/21/10] |

Okay, I found a decent copy of the game. I'll work on it tonight ... Sorry about all this crap, guys. Also, for the sake of doing something that makes this post post-worthy - claiming Hook. Still not sure how it got out if it was cancelled, but it's better to not ask these kinds of questions. --- Every wound a new opportunity, every curse a new challenge. I shall encounter defeats... But I will not be defeated. |
Updated the site. Haven't done a news item yet (will wait until today's queue is finished). Unsure how to mark Xenon 2 on the site, so just had it claimed. --- There is no failure, only feedback. |
That's probably how it oughta be... --- Every wound a new opportunity, every curse a new challenge. I shall encounter defeats... But I will not be defeated. |
Dropping my claim for Dragon - The Bruce Lee Story. I actually did the entire first level by holding Button 1 and 2. If something got in my way, I just jumped over it and continued with the world-beating strategy of holding Button 1 and 2. I'm not sure how that could possibly translate into a guide. --- Life is a journey. Time is a river. The door is ajar. |
Just want to point out that some screenshots of Xenon 2 have been accepted. Due to me mentioning that, here are the current games that require a screenshot (if you play or cover them, can you upload a screenshot for them?) Cyborg Z Flash Point Penguin Adventure Street Master Additionally, the games below are missing 1 or more box shots for a specific release of the game (this means that, while there may be a box shot for the game, a specific release still requires a box shot): 94 Super World Cup Soccer Aerial Assault Alien Syndrome Battletoads in Battlemaniacs Cyborg Z F-1 Spirit - The way to Formula-1 Fantasy Zone Fantasy Zone: The Maze Golden Axe Warrior Kenseiden Psychic World The Dinosaur Dooley Wonder Kid Ys: The Vanished Omens --- There is no failure, only feedback. |
