Ready for Content Review

Well done MikePenance.

60 guides to go now. How is everyone getting on with their guides?

@Ringworm: Have you uploaded Danan yet? That'll take us into the 50s.
@selmiak: Good to see progress on your guide.
@odino: Are you writing anything?
@Glacoras: What are you working on?
#52 | Glacoras | Posted 11/16/2012 5:14:49 PM | message detail | quote
Still got my Great Volleyball guide to write for. Once that is complete, I will be taking a step back from any CPs for a while to reduce my backlog; it's currently at 16 games. When Great Volleyball is complete, it will be crosslinked to Game Box Serie Esportes and that would also be considered complete.

Should have mentioned this earlier (if I haven't), but I am not going to write for the Daffy Duck in Hollywood game for a while and have removed my claim for it.

Started work on After Burner. Miick & Mack is a 8-bit version of the Genesis and I can just FAQ it based on the Genesis.

Hook & Earthworm Jim, for whoever claims them maybe me later on, are also the same way with actually all ports.

Can you get them cross-linked? That'll knock them off the list quicker.
#56 | Glacoras | Posted 11/17/2012 8:18:56 PM | message detail | quote
I would check before doing any cross-links. I've read in places that the SMS/GG version of Ariel (one of the guides I wrote for this project) was the same as the Gen version and found that a Boss battle was different enough to warrant a separate guide. Cool Spot is another guide where the Gen version could cover the SMS version with a bit of a tweak. Basically, check that the guide actually does cover the SMS version before filling in a cross-link.

Also, some "complete" guides on this site have been found to be incomplete, so please make sure any cross-linked guides are complete for both the version of the game it covered and for the SMS version.

Finally, there is a YouTube series of videos that shows how to complete the SMS version of Hook, if you search that site (think a couple of people have posted the link before).

I have written and submitted a guide for Castelo Ra-Tim-Bum.

What a game!

P.S. Only one more guide for the big 125 milestone - who will be the author of this momentous FAQ?

Just to mention here, another guide was also accepted today, bringing this project's total to 125 games completed.

And the SMS run-through of this game is also on YouTube:

Just checked the first level and they are the same. Anyone want to check the rest - Glacoras?

Earthworm Jim is different on the SMS according to this article:
http://gaminghell.110mb.com/EarthwormJimSMS.html

Seems like the game is a port of the game gear version, but with a lot of bits missing.

I'm curious as to whether this is the Earthworm Jim stated in the CP list. I've never played SMS - this is just a PC conversion or emulation or whatever you call it - but I have no way of verifying its South American release as far as I can tell. I would like to claim it ... but I'll get your guys' opinion before I do.

Don't know without playing it but the publisher and the developer don't match the ones on this site (TecToy being the publisher) so may not be the same. But you can probably find the correct version (if this isn't it) to play on another site.

Be good if you did claim it.

TecToy could be the SA publisher.

Also, can I remind people not to post links to where people can obtain these games. Sure it could be against the Law + TOS.

This article talks about Ultima IV:

http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/ultima/ultima5.htm

It has a section on the SMS version saying how it is the same as the PC version pretty much:

In addition to the port to a Nintendo system, Quest of the Avatar is also the only game in the series to receive a port to a Sega console. The Master System version of Ultima IV is a very rare cartridge in the United States, being published a year after the release of the Genesis and the working end of the SMS's life-cycle, but is much more common in Europe where Sega's consoles have always had more of a commercial foothold. It was never released in Japan. The SMS port of Ultima IV is mostly faithful to the computer versions of the game, unlike the radically different NES port, even including the original cover art and documentation and a paper replica of the cloth map of Britannia. The tile graphics are in the same overall style as the computer versions of the game, and gameplay is ported faithfully with only a few significant deviations. Unlike in the computer versions where the player can say anything they can type to an NPC, conversation topics in this version are limited to things the player has already discovered, and dungeons are overhead mazes rather than first-person crawls. While the Sega Master System is clearly capable of Ultima-style first-person dungeon crawling (as shown in Sega's fantastic 1987 SMS-exclusive, and obviously Ultima-inspired, Phantasy Star), the use of overhead perspective in dungeons actually makes the game a bit easier and dungeon-crawling less tedious, due to it being easier to navigate.

So we can use the PC FAQ for it.

I played through Satellite 7 using the Invincibility code just to see how the whole game looks. It loops after you defeat the game's main boss where there is a house in the background. You fight the boss 5 total times. The invincibility code will wear off after looping then you got to activate it again. You'll know if you are invincible if you can't collect the stars which I don't know the purpose of since I normally died to much to find out.

33rd SMS game total but lucky number 31st for the project has been submitted and it's none other than BMX Trial: Alex Kidd.

Turns out, I'm wrong about M&M: GG as well. The SMS version doesn't have the final bosses like the Genesis does.

I'll look into writing for these, if no one minds:

- Ace of Aces
- Golfamania
- Pit-Fighter

Like with my numerous GB CP claims, it'll be a while before I get around to them - probably a week or so at max. If that's a problem, then don't worry over my claims.

Still, Pit-Fighter ... Be it on the SNES, GameBoy, or SMS - they all suck.

Cancelling my PGA Tour Golf claim - bad copy of the game.

Now claiming Xenon 2 and World Class Leaderboard Golf.

Also, as a (dumb) question, how is Hook on the list if it was cancelled?

Ace of Aces

1) How many missions are they?
2) Any specific strategies for dealing with enemy planes?
3) How do I complete some missions?

I looked at this guide to try and find out how to control the plane (which was described well) and how to complete missions. Also, why is the guide 10kB when the information relating to the game itself is only 4kB? Also, and while it doesn't matter for these guides, I would recommend moving the version history and legalities to the end of the guide to allow users to get to the requested information quicker.

The Ottifants

1) I know that you can get some special bonuses/abilities if you collect some popcicle-type items in specific orders. What are these orders and what do you get per order?

Xenon 2

1) How many levels are there?
2) Can you suggest boss strategies?
3) What are the different power-ups you can get?
4) Why is there no mention of the shops at the end of the level?
5) How do you get more extra lives?

I probably could go into more detail on what is missing from the Xenon 2 guide, but this is the major missing information in the guide and the main reason why someone would look at the guide.

Before this is mentioned, I am aware that adaml has mentioned a couple of my points in the last 2 posts.

What Glacoras said.

I've been kinda harsh on a few guides for this project in the past and I'm sorry if I offended anyone, but some of Keyblade's guides are just...incomplete.

I understand wanting to knock out a completion project, but as I've mentioned several times in the NES project thread, the integrity of the guides suffer when someone is just banging them out for the sake of banging them out. I'd hate to need help on one of the above mentioned games and go to look the guide only to discover the Cliff's note versions that have been done. The donation bit at the beginning of the guides kill me. :)

Dropping my claim for Dragon - The Bruce Lee Story. I actually did the entire first level by holding Button 1 and 2. If something got in my way, I just jumped over it and continued with the world-beating strategy of holding Button 1 and 2. I'm not sure how that could possibly translate into a guide.

Just want to point out that some screenshots of Xenon 2 have been accepted. Due to me mentioning that, here are the current games that require a screenshot (if you play or cover them, can you upload a screenshot for them?)

Cyborg Z
Flash Point
Penguin Adventure
Street Master

Additionally, the games below are missing 1 or more box shots for a specific release of the game (this means that, while there may be a box shot for the game, a specific release still requires a box shot):

94 Super World Cup Soccer
Aerial Assault
Alien Syndrome
Battletoads in Battlemaniacs
Cyborg Z
F-1 Spirit - The way to Formula-1
Fantasy Zone
Fantasy Zone: The Maze
Golden Axe Warrior
Kenseiden
Psychic World
The Dinosaur Dooley
Wonder Kid
Ys: The Vanished Omens
